How often is it recommended to clean the air exchanger?
If your air exchanger has filters, it is recommended to clean or replace them every three months, at each change of season. Indeed, there are models of air exchangers that work with washable filters, others with disposable filters. However, if you live in a more dusty than normal environment, more frequent cleaning may be necessary. Major work in the house or outside may also justify a complete maintenance of the air exchanger earlier than expected. Thus, all dust, dirt and debris will be dislodged and will not interfere with the proper functioning of the appliance.
The outdoor and indoor air intakes must also be cleaned regularly. Indeed, the grille of the outdoor air intake may be obstructed and eventually choke the appliance. It is therefore necessary to remove leaves, grass, snow, ice and other particles that block the air intake. Inside the house, it is important to remove dust and debris from the suction vents.
If you have an air return in the kitchen, more frequent cleaning may be necessary. Indeed, cooking grease tends to be sucked into the air exchanger ducts. Their presence could alter the proper functioning of the air exchanger, or even cause significant damage to your appliance.
Before undertaking any cleaning, refer to the instruction manual provided by the manufacturer. You will thus have all the indications as to the specificities of your appliance.
Before carrying out any work on your air exchanger, you must turn off your appliance. Such an oversight could be fatal for your appliance or even cause injury to the person in charge of cleaning.
