What is mold?

Mold is a fungus that grows on food or on humid construction material. It often appears in the form of a stain, which can be of different colors. In some cases, mold may not be visible but can manifest itself with a mold smell. Its growth can lead to poor air quality indoors.

Laundry, cooking and other factors can humidify the air. This causes condensation and the infiltration of water can lead to a level of humidity that will produce mold. Poor ventilation can also lead to increased levels of humidity and the formation of condensation, which will lead to mold forming.

For it to reproduce, mold gives off spores that linger in the air that are so tiny they can be inhaled. The presence of mold spores is constant.

When mold grows on the interior, the number of spores fragments to such an extent that the level of mold is higher in the interior than the exterior.

Asbestos / Vermiculite removal

Asbestos became popular in some industries in the late 19th century for its resistance to fire, electrical and chemicals.

In its friable form, it has been used in many lagging, sprayed coatings, sheets, markers, adhesives, sealants and cardboard plates. It is also found (not in its friable form) incorporated into cement products (asbestos cement) or in various binders and adhesives. It is also used for brake pads, trim boiler, electric ovens and in various electrical systems, such as hotplates). It was used in buildings for its flame resistance, insulation, flexibility and resistance to chemicals.

Despites its high temperature electrical insulation capabilities, this material is toxic.

The inhalation of asbestos fibers can cause pulmonary fibrosis and various cancers. The victims of these diseases are mainly the “asbestos workers’ as well as the people exposed to such environment. Although the dangers of asbestos were identified from the 1890's, the use of asbestos was banned in many countries only a century later. “Work on these materials can emit hazardous particles and dust” reminds INRS12. In France, although forbidden since 1997, asbestos is in 2010 “still present in many buildings and equipment", according to the INRS. Asbestos risk is also underestimated in some professions that can be exposed to it. Asbestos-related diseases represent the second cause of occupational diseases. It is also and the main cause of work-related deaths, besides work accidents. “12
